Goukamma Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area, situated on the Garden Route between Sedgefield and Knysna, has a diverse array of fascinating habitats and an abundance of smaller wildlife, birds and fish. It is also a World Heritage Site.
The reserve covers 2 500 hectares of dense coastal dune forest, including thickets of milkwood, yellowwood and candlewood trees. Further inland, the fynbos is characterised by erica and restio species which flower in September and October!
A Day Access of R50 might be payable. ♡ Hike starts strictly at 8h00.
KINDLY TAKE NOTE This trail is inaccessible during spring high tide, therefore with an eye on the tides on this specific date we’ll start at 9h30.
You are welcome to arrive early and make breakfast at the parking spot where we’ll later meet for the hike!
List of items required for all our hikes:
- Suitable lightweight hydration-/backpack/hip pouch
- Hydration/bottled water
- Sunscreen
- Hat/head gear
- Suitable non-slip shoes
- Snacks
- Lightweight windproof jacket
- Fleece/midlayer depending the weather
- Your own emergency items, such as bandage, small petroleum jelly, blister plasters, etc
✨ Optional items:
- Fingerless gloves, hiking poles, beanie, buffs, sunglasses.
We’ll meet at Groenvlei Parking area, around 7h45.
